At Dunguza Football Project, based in Chencha Woreda, Gamo Zone, we are more than just a football team—we are a movement for community growth, youth empowerment, and social change. Our work is grounded in the belief that when young people are given structure, purpose, and mentorship, entire communities benefit. Here’s how we’re making a meaningful difference.

1. Empowering Youth Through Sports

Football is at the heart of what we do. Under the guidance of Coach Mathewos, a passionate and selfless volunteer, we train young people regularly, helping them develop discipline, physical fitness, teamwork, and resilience. These are not only athletic skills but life skills that shape confident, focused individuals.

Many of our players come from under-resourced backgrounds, and Dunguza gives them a platform to express themselves, build self-esteem, and stay engaged in positive activities.

2. Creating a Safe and Supportive Space

In a world full of distractions and challenges, especially for rural youth, Dunguza acts as a safe haven. We offer a healthy alternative to negative influences by fostering a culture of mutual respect, hard work, and encouragement. Our field is more than just a place to play—it’s a gathering point where bonds are built, and futures are shaped.

3. Promoting Community Involvement

We believe that real impact comes from working together. Parents, local leaders, and community members are actively involved in supporting our project. From helping maintain the field to providing moral and material support, their involvement strengthens community ties and builds a shared sense of pride.

We also organize friendly matches and community events, which draw people together and promote unity, joy, and local engagement.

4. Encouraging Education and Personal Growth

At Dunguza, we understand that education is vital. While we nurture athletic talent, we also emphasize the importance of staying in school, being responsible, and dreaming big. Our players are regularly reminded that football and education go hand-in-hand.

We hold discussions and informal sessions on topics like leadership, hygiene, respect, and personal discipline—broadening the impact of our project beyond the sport itself.

Dunguza is planting seeds of hope. We’ve seen boys and girls who once had little direction now speak confidently of their goals—to play at a higher level, to become coaches, or to give back to their community. We aim to create pathways for our most promising players to advance to regional and national opportunities.
